Art Elective Programme student Tang Shiyin (22A15) won the first prize at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) Archifuture Design Challenge 2023.

The ArchiFuture Design Challenge is an annual Design Competition organised by the Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Students from secondary schools and junior colleges are invited to participate in this challenge to envision the future of Singapore through innovative architectural and urban design responding to the year’s challenge brief.

SUTD hosted a three-day immersive workshop to foster students’ abilities to innovate and design based on this new city narrative. The workshop was developed in partnership with the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities to provide a glimpse into a unique blend of data-driven and human-centric approaches to design in SUTD.

The JC2 student received her prize from Mr Heng Swee Keat (Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies) at the award ceremony which was held in conjunction with the SUTD Design Innovation Forum on 26 May 2023.

“The Archifuture Design Challenge hosted by SUTD, as well as the informative workshop organised by passionate members of the architectural field have left me with a deeper appreciation for the interdisciplinary intricacies behind our built environment. It is with gratitude to have been able to glimpse into the wonders of the field which encompasses technical expertise, creative artistry, as well as the increasingly significant sensitivity to the humanities. I remain excited to see where design thinking will take us next, going hand-in-hand with the ever-developing technologies and techniques passed down by experts in the field, continually bringing our city landscape through sustainable growth while bringing her human inhabitants closer together as a nation.” – Tang Shiyin (22A15)
