The whole Hwa Chong turned up to cheer the athletes on.
On 19th April, the entire school rallied behind the Track and Field athletes to cheer them on during the finals of the National School Games. As the athletes took to the field, the stadium was brimming with anticipation, permeating a nervous yet excited energy. With passion burning bright in their hearts, the students chanted in unison, their voices blending in a harmonious manner. The symphony of voices lent crucial moral support to our student athletes, granting them the much-needed energy to continue pushing forward.

After a year of preparation and relentless training, our Track and Field Team’s unwavering dedication brought about remarkable results that left little to be desired. The A-Division Girls’ team once again emerged as champions, whereas the A, B and C Division Boys’ teams clinched 2nd, 4th and 1st respectively.

While we celebrated the success of our Track and Field athletes, many often wonder how they managed to achieve such stellar results. In fact, the secret behind their success was a combination of hard work and dedication. The athletes began the competition season knowing what they wanted. With this burning desire to win, they put in countless hours perfecting their craft. Elgin Low Jit Yin, Captain of the Track and Field Team, acknowledged, "We train on average about 3 times a week for at least 3 hours at a time. And every time we step onto the track, we give it our all. We run and walk our fastest, throw our furthest and jump our highest."
Winning is one thing, but learning from the experience is far more important. Elgin also expresses that the most important aspect of a competition is “to enjoy it, to learn from it and bounce back stronger.” Despite commenting that this year was not the team’s best performance, he was optimistic that they would bounce back stronger next year.
Once again, let us celebrate and acknowledge the commendable achievements that were obtained by our Track and Field athletes. We also wish them continued success in future competitions to come.
