On 28 August 2026, Hwa Chong Institution’s High School Parent Support Group, One PSG, organised a 1970s-themed Teachers’ Day celebration for our High School teachers. With nostalgic food, carnival games, music and plenty of laughter, the event was a lively expression of appreciation for the dedication and care of our teachers. One PSG Chairperson Marilyn Neo shares her experience of planning the celebration and seeing parents and teachers come together in appreciation and good cheer.

“There’s a party going on right here A celebration to last throughout the years So bring your good times and your laughter too…”

These lyrics kept playing in my mind as I planned this Teachers’ Day celebration, and on 28 August, it all came to life!

With the groovy vibes of the 1970s setting the tone, One PSG came together to celebrate our wonderful teachers in a fun-filled Teachers’ Day celebration. The hall was filled with good vibes, great music, delicious food and exciting carnival games.

Lunch featured a spread of nostalgic favourites, including muah chee, chicken rice, nasi lemak and tea eggs. We also prepared custom-made keychains as a small token of appreciation for our teachers.

It was especially heartwarming to see our teachers being so spontaneous and sporting as they eagerly took part in carnival games such as Ping Pong Toss and Ring Toss, enthusiastically trying their luck to win prizes!

Adding to the festive spirit, everyone dressed according to the 1970s theme, with colourful polka dots, groovy prints and Bohemian-inspired looks that truly brought the celebration to life. Our teachers were also such good sports at the photo booth, happily donning colourful wigs and striking fun poses for the camera.

From a parent’s perspective, the celebration was also a meaningful reminder of the importance of the partnership between parents and the school. Through One PSG, parents are given opportunities to come together, contribute, bond and work hand in hand with the school. These partnerships play an important role in building a strong and supportive school community.

Beyond the celebration itself, the event was also an enjoyable time for parents to come together as One PSG, to bond, laugh, work as a team and create wonderful memories. It is something we look forward to each year, and seeing all the efforts come together and the smiles on everyone’s faces made it all worthwhile.

Most importantly, the celebration gave us an opportunity to express our appreciation for the dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment of our teachers.

Thank you, teachers, for all that you do. We hope you enjoyed the celebration as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you!
