On 26 February 2026, the Welfare Committee of the Students Council organised a series of events for Friendship Day in the Common Room. One of these events, the figurine and bouqet painting event, gave students a chance to try their hand at figurine and bouquet painting with their friends.

When the event started at 4pm, the air was thick with anticipation as students were already eagerly gathered outside the common room waiting for the event to begin, and they streamed in the moment the doors were opened. Organisers noted that many of the students were Junior College Year 1 students, with some Junior College Year 2 students also staying back after their lessons to attend this activity, which was especially heartwarming for the organisers, as it showed how much the students were looking forward to this event despite their busy schedules. Furthermore, this allowed the Year 1 students who were new to the campus to better understand the role of the common room, which is a gathering and play space for College students that allows them to have fun and bond with their friends.

The first activity was the figurine painting activity, where students designed their own figurines and shared about their figurine with their friends. The inspiration for this activity was actually the GSW common room initiative in 2025, and it was brought back due to popular demand by the student population.

In the second activity, students could make their own flower bouquets and give them to their friends. This original initiative was centered around giving, as many students like to receive gifts from their friends, and the flowers serve as an everlasting symbol of friendship. This activity was particularly well-received by the students, with the entire supply of flowers being wiped out after a mere 30 minutes into the event.

Students were able to mix around and bond with their friends in these activities, forming core memories of their Hwa Chong student experience.
