On 14 February 2026, two teams of C2 students from Hwa Chong Institution (College Section) participated in the Category A Finals of the Singapore Young Physicists’ Tournament (SYPT) at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, NTU. HCI Team 1, composed of Zhu Yijun (25S6G), Luo Zihan (25S66), Lim Kai Yi (26S6H) clinched the Bronze Award, while HCI Team 2, composed of Jethro Chai (25S6H), Kong Qiyun (25S6N), Kayden Tan (26S62) won the Silver Award.

The SYPT assesses participants' ability to solve complicated real-world physics problems. Each team takes several months to conduct scientific research and investigation and prepare a report on a number of selected problems. During the competition, the opponent challenges the reporting team to a problem. If the reporter accepts the challenge, the reporting team presents the 10-minute report. There is a 2 minute Q&A after the presentation, after which the opponent takes 4 minutes to prepare a 12 minute critique of the report, and must invite the reporter up for a debate by the 4-5 minute mark.

In preparation for the intense contest, teams often prepare an opposition template in advance, consisting of common pitfalls of other teams that they can critique. On the day of the tournament, there are four Physics Fights and one final Fight for the two highest-scoring teams.

We congratulate all participating teams for their hard work and commitment in this tournament.
