In the spirit of compassion and community this Chinese New Year, the Hwa Chong Institution (College) Values-in-Action Council (VIAC) successfully organised the annual donation drive to support senior residents in Taman Jurong. Held from 20th January to 3rd February 2026, the drive was conducted in collaboration with the SG Cares Volunteer Centre@Jurong and the NTUC Health Active Ageing Centre. The student body rallied together in their CCAs to assemble care packs filled with general household essentials, including daily necessities that could support seniors in their everyday lives.

The VIA Council had initially set a target of 150 care packs. However, the response from students far exceeded their expectations. By the end of the drive, an impressive 413 care packs had been collected, nearly three times the original goal.

Arin Tan, president of VIAC, shared that she felt extremely grateful and heartened by the overwhelming support from the school community. This generosity and unity displayed reflects the true meaning of Chinese New Year: care, gratitude and the spirit of togetherness.

Through this initiative, students not only gave back to the community but also made our Chinese New Year celebrations this year especially meaningful.
