I was uncertain whether I had made the right choice. Tap! Nothing could be changed now. I had already clicked the submit button and locked Handball in as my first choice.

In the days leading up to the release of our sabbatical results, I was excited to find out what I would get. I was hoping for Handball. It was by far one of my favourite sports to play during P.E., along with Basketball. I loved its competitiveness and fast-paced nature, something I have always enjoyed. Thinking about learning more about Handball made me smile: the tactics, the positions, the matches. Everything about Handball seemed perfect for me.

Finally, after weeks of waiting, the nerve-wracking results were released. There it was, in all its glory: Handball! I jumped for joy when I saw the result. I had been assigned my favourite sabbatical!

The weeks leading up to the sabbatical passed in a blur. Tests and revision filled my timetable, and I knew Handball would be a much-needed breather after the busy school days. When the time finally came, I woke up early and waited excitedly at the SALT Centre for the sabbatical to begin.

Our coaches soon arrived, and they looked experienced and ready to guide us. Over the next few days, they taught us how to play Handball properly. At first, I thought I already knew all the rules, but the first session quickly proved me wrong. What I knew was only partially correct. For example, I learnt that you could dribble the ball and take three steps before throwing. There were many other rules I had not fully understood before.

At that moment, I realised that there was much more to Handball than I had first thought. Instead of feeling discouraged, I became even more motivated to learn. Each day, I went for the sabbatical and learnt something new. Through constant matches and practice with my sabbatical mates, I can now confidently say that I am able to play Handball better than before.

Through this journey, I also learnt to pass the ball more instead of trying to score alone. Teamwork is often more effective than relying only on yourself. Handball taught me not only about teamwork, but also about communicating with teammates and trusting others during a fast-paced game.

This sabbatical was not just an experience. It was also a journey of finding myself in the fast-paced world of Handball.
